Tramp Joe Hayden Run Over by Union Pacific Train
A Denver-born tramp named Joe Hayden was crushed under a Union Pacific passenger car near a water tank. His lower right foot was amputated after the accident. He lay under the car steps until the train stopped and then crawled out, later being taken to Stormont hospital after initial care at a city prison. Col Lindsey reported his missing wallet, containing papers with his name. no valuables were found. The incident prompted city officials and Salvation Army hospital staff to arrange medical care, with Dr Munn volunteering assistance and navigation of patient lodging.
