Delegates from every state and territory attend the Fourteenth Annual Session in Seattle. Speakers urge a comprehensive system of public road improvements funded by state and local governments to boost commerce, agriculture, and transport.
A six hour clash near Monastir ends with Turkish forces repulsed and 210 killed or wounded. Insurgents’ losses not stated. Russians sail from Sevastopol toward Turkish waters to press Turkey over the Monastir incident. Dispatches note villages burned and rail traffic suspended on lines to Salonika Monastir and Uskub.
Veterans parade in San Francisco and across the state drew immense crowds as military naval and civic groups marched. Grand Marshal Colonel Fuller led the procession with prominent officers guiding the formation, featuring regulars and volunteers in full dress amid banners and cheering spectators.

Seven persons were injured when trolley cars on the Metropolitan Street Railway collided near the Armourdale crossings in Kansas City Kansas. Fatalities include Ming Ree Cochran with chest burns and others identified as Andrew Burges H. Meke cut, Mrs Clynt Jakneon, W. E. Harrison, A. Swope conductor Lex Mart 64, and Miss Cochran who was hurt as passengers aided in the escape.
Pittsburg Pennsylvania August dispatch reports T Sprinter M Quay arrived in Pittsoure en route to his Beaver Island home. A circulating nine section rumors say the Great died on the train but Quay remains in his usual health. Nehily has not responded to this city. Details of the nine section rumor origin are unclear. A New York message notes Mesedah A Godger arrives from Colon with treaty implications if approved.

The Empress of India sank the Huang-Tai after a collision near Hong Kong. The Empress rescued 170 crew from the cruiser. 123 aboard the Huang-Tai drowned and the Huang-Tai’s captain refused to leave. The Empress sustained heavy midship damage.

An unidentified man died at City Hospital from an alleged dose of etrychting aboard an Incoming Burlington train from Chicago. Six bottles, each with a different poison, were found on the corpse, with labels showing purchases from Paducah Kentucky. The dead man appeared well dressed and money was scant on him. he claimed it was a life. He boarded the train in Chicago and died soon after.
In a swirling early field three candidates contest a congressional race with Curtis favored by county votes. Delegates equal roughly 119 based on last election results, with Atchison Leavenworth Shawnee Jefferson likely backing Curtis and other counties split, making coalition strategy crucial for the convention.
