The Populist convention finished late and nominated J. D. Botkin for Congressman at Large and W. H. Morris for state auditor. L. C. Boyte and A. M. Abilene Aug 7 Formal terms outline a plan for unity between the Democratic and Populist parties. The Democratic conference committee proposes joint backing for a state and electoral ticket at the coming general election, with Populist candidates for state offices and congressman at large to be adopted by the Democratic convention. WER Cleveland H Clay Evans declines to be a candidate for Republican nomination for governor at the Nashville convention on August 12. The telegram to Major Stahlmen of Nashville confirms the decision, with Evans Jr corroborating the dispatch.
The city endures continuing heat and humidity all week with no relief. At five o’clock, police reported two deaths among those who were overcome yesterday. The day’s temperature reached 96 at 2:30 PM, threatening to surpass yesterday’s record of 91 degrees.
Claude Hoover was hanged at 11 20 in the Omaha jail in the presence of a small number of people. Hoover professed repentance and said he expected to go to heaven. Last fall Hoover shot and killed Con Sam Dubois, his brother-in-law.

St Louis Aug 1 Cyclier E Anderson plans a mile a minute ride next Sunday paced by a locomotive. Trainee By Buckner and A C Willams accompany him as trial runs near 27 and 35 miles per hour. Anderson rode two trials behind a locomotive at Odenburg TL but could not complete the full distance due to an unfinished track. The aim is to overcome suction from the coach at high speed.
William Bommoldt a vocalist formerly from Chicago killed himself yesterday in St Louis by shooting himself through the breast as heat and distress are noted in a note found at the scene. He had traveled to the city for performances and the note cites extreme heat as a partial cause.
A New York dispatch claims Senator David B. Hill will support Chicago convention nominees. Chairman James E. Jones and Lawrent Gardiner met at Normandie by the Sea to discuss Hill's position, with officials signaling endorsement of the Chicago ticket and the party platform.

Cashier Bayar Herrera, aided by President Joan Dessart, halted the robbery as the suspects tried to reach the vault. Herrera fired his pistol, and robbers fled on horseback, a confederate said to have wounded a man. Dessart suffered a scalp wound. a horse was killed in the street chase. A posse pursued the robbers.
