The General Superintendent of the Rock Island dies from injuries sustained during the shooting at the chutes. Details indicate Dunlap succumbed to wounds as authorities investigate the incident and assess motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.
Funeral plans set for Charlot Dunlap general superintendent of the Rock Island road after a cable accident at a Chicago amusement site. Known as a popular leader, his career began on the Baltimore and Ohio in 1869, rising from brakeman to top Rock Island official. A carload of Topeka railroad men will attend the obsequies Tuesday afternoon.
Governor Morrill declined to sign the petition to make Judge David Martin a nonpartisan candidate for chief justice of the supreme court. He favored Martin as a Republican candidate and would not commit to signing if a state convention fails to convene. In The Home coal mine Henry Johnson and Mathew Jordan clashed this morning 500 feet below the surface. Johnson was fatally stabbed by a pick to the neck and Jordan is wounded. Physicians fear Johnson will die within 24 hours. Officers reported both men had families and no clear motive was stated.

General Manager J. J. Frey of the Santa Fe passed through Topeka at 11:30 AM en route to Colorado Springs where his wife is very ill. He spoke at the depot of a splendid trip and said he felt unusually well. He had arrived in New York on Saturday.
