Henry F. Smith & Co Worcester has assigned with liabilities around 200000 and assets near 240000. Last year sales exceeded 600000 but fell this year due to weak demand and several bad accounts, with 150000 overdue. John E Drake & Co Quinze also assigned with liabilities about 230000 and similar asset levels amid dull business.
A large colored picnic occurred at Eskridge yesterday with a special Santa Fe train from Topeka carrying Dis patch band. Five carloads arrived and up to 2,000 people from various Kansas towns attended. Speeches by Editor Driver of Blackman and Sol Watkins highlighted the event. A suit for a temporary injunction against Eugenes V. Debs and 11 others will come before Judge Foster on Monday. The plaintiffs, represented by C G Waters, seek to restrain actions affecting interstate commerce and argue the court must decide if authority or construction of the Shirk law authorizes court action. Foster indicated the outcome may hinge on whether a temporary injunction is issued or not.
