Tr D D Jacobs a pioneer surgeon of Emporia dies in Chicago hospital after self administered oxygen treatment during an eye infection incident. Born May 20 1842 near Waynesboro Pa he studied at Penn College and University of Pennsylvania. He practiced in Kansas since 1865 becoming a respected figure in medicine and public service.
The Kansas River at a point near Kansas City rose nearly two feet in 24 hours and is expected to rise for another day, according to the weather observer.
Albuquerque New Mexico April 28 Sixty five machinists helpers and others at Santa Fe shops strike after 26 union machinists are put to work non union workers armed guards patrol the property but service seems unused. Topeka strike expected by month end as non union men are employed in Topeka and California shops. Mr Mudge calls the situation tense with unions seeking new rules and Albuquerque and San Bernardino shops short of men. Appointments to Senate include Dickerson for Indian Territory judgeship amid contest in the Moore Dickerson case.

Prominent organizers include T J Barton and Samuel H Kelley of Benton Marion Miolin and N Gifford of Chich and J G Brinkman FP A Russell and R C Torrell of Great Bend. The stated reason for the line is unclear to observers familiar with the region.
Drift of troops at Salina as Company M Kansas National Guard returns from the general inspection led by General Freeman U S A. The unit carried off high honors and faces a ceremonial homecoming in April at Salina Kansas with news of the civilian strain easing after the inspection.
