Reports from St Petersburg state Japanese forces bombarded New Chwang with troops near the Batu river and near Mukden. Chinese authorities resist extending martial law to Yinkow while viceroy Alexeieff opposes the action. Military movements in Manchuria and Archangel area tied to broader war uncertainties.
Viestoy Alexieff's April 11 report to the emperor details the Port Arthur squadron moving south then returning, eight torpedo destroyers probing inland, three destroyed in the night action with the Strashal losing most hands, and the Bayan rescuing some survivors. On April 14 the cruiser Bayan and others engage Japanese destroyers, Strashal sinks, and further ships sortie, with heavy combat near the harbor and multiple ships damaged or driven off.
Charles and Street submitted the winning bid of 100000 to secure the plant sale. Upset price reached with bidder details not disclosed.

Police pursue the trio through Indiana hideouts and a snowbound cave before a rapid, deadly confrontation ends with two deaths and one capture.
Pranke Rose, who murdered his wife on Christmas Day, was shot to death at 10 28 this morning in the yard of the state penitentiary. He had said his wife was unfaithful and claimed the crime extended to their two year old child starved and cold. He surrendered to police after admitting the murder and showed no remorse, insisting the trail was predetermined.
In Denver a reprise of the dispute with Charles H. Moyer of the Western Federation of Miners plays out as he defies the supreme court order and faces custody on charges linked to desecration, with Governor Peabody and Sheriff Willis named in the arrest warrant context. Haywood, secretary treasurer of the federation, remains involved in the broader dispute.
