Esperita and Mercia in Cuba a tale of loss and longing
In a Cuban village two young girls, Esperita a Spanish girl and Mercia from Mississippi, share a life of play and drift apart as war and illness forestall their future. Mercia’s father, a bridge builder for the army, is ruined by shortages and illness, while Esperita’s family is pulled into exile and tragedy as malaria fever and the sea claim loved ones.
