Injustice and Discriminations Are Reviewed by Shippers
Shippers review claims of unfair treatment and discrimination in rates. Records consider supply chain fairness, pricing practices, and potential bias in carrier charges. Officials and industry groups assess transparency, compliance with regulations, and remedies for affected shippers.
Topeka Rail Shippers Push Reductions in Freight Rates
A Topeka transportation committee pressed railroads for lower fifth class and slack coal rates, seeking uniform cuts from Kansas City to Topeka and beyond. They urged restoring old differentials for mining coal and lower paper and lumber shipping costs to spur city business and milling activity.

Gruber Swearingen FeudTurns to Knife Attack in Parkdale
In Parkdale the Gruber Swearingen feud turned violent when Henry Gruber stabbed Charley Swearingen near his gate at Eighth and Chandler Streets. Swearingen’s left thigh wound, three inches long, required a physician. Gruber was arrested by Sergeant Darby and jailed after bond set at 1000. Swearingen says Gruber attacked him as he entered his gate. Gruber claims self defense following an ambush. The feud has persisted for about a year with prior disturbances and arrests for both sides.

Political Gossip Contests at Stake in State Board Decision
The state election board will decide Monday afternoon in rival First and Second district congressional contests. Allen predicts the Second district nominates Henry J. Allen over J. D. Mowersock, while Nugent is seen as Curtis backer in the First district against D. H. Anthony. Analysts expect board rulings strictly on merits, with strong local influence in Brown, Wyandotte, and other counties shaping the Republican ticket.
