Chicago voters deliver a sweeping shift to a populist majority in the mayoral race with Carter Harrison winning as Democrat over all, defeating Harlan and other candidates. Bryan congratulates Harrison as Democrats gain a city council majority, while reform bodies and party machines react to the vote.

St Louis April 7 Henry Ziegenhein and the Republican ticket won mayor and most city offices by wide margins. Robert McMath and Isaac B. Mason also led on their ballots. Democrats ran two tickets with Harrison Meriwether, overall support from the civic federation limited many Democratic contenders, while several Republican candidates won large majorities.
In Canton the Democratic ticket won in most offices including the mayoral race and two justices, with Democrats carrying Menominee and sweeping ward contests while one ward elected a Republican. Across Kansas and Missouri many cities saw Democratic or Republican wins on April 7, reflecting local shifts and female voter impact in Emporia and other towns.
Annie Besant the noted Theosophist will visit Topeka next Monday with Countess Wachtmeister and Mine Wilson of London to establish a local Theosophical school. No lecture arrangements yet. the news notes the city has not previously hosted Besant and hints at municipal election results in Kansas.
Topeka residents press for a $100000 auditorium as obstructionists are warned off. The measure passed the legislature and a court challenge is anticipated. officials insist the project will proceed regardless and pledge even larger facilities if needed.
Attorney General Boyle believes the auditorium law will stand despite its peculiar legislative history. He stated today in an interview with the Journal that the law reflects the governor’s intent and is valid as written.

Dolan, Irish and jovial, flouted the scene by bearing the broom and joking about the pending trial of Fed Irwin for stealing saws. Coyne escorted Dolan out as proceedings continued.
Senator H W Young editor of the Independence Star and Kansan questions how the contingent fund for the state railroad commissioners rose from 1000 to 3000 dollars in the budget. He accuses unnamed parties of tampering and notes a related bill was altered without legislative approval.
A 65 year old woman identified as Mrs Hattle Topping was found near a brickyard area and taken to the county jail for insanity. She claimed various origins from Illinois to Kansas City and showed calm behavior, asking for tobacco while in custody. Authorities note a pattern of mentally unstable individuals being moved through Topeka in recent weeks.
SAM A. JOHNSON received Swift and Holliday Drug company prize for top grades at Kansas Medical College ceremony in Air. Johnson, a graduate that evening, passed all exams with honors. He had been convicted earlier of grave robbing, and had served as janitor at the college for two years, living near Twelfth and her streets opposite the medical college.
The president signed restitution for relief of the afflicted at 1:25 p m today and authorized the navy to secure a ship for transportation. He and Mrs. Roosevelt then went to the wharf, boarding the Dolphin for a brief outing with Bratt Steer Bates naval surgeon and Secretary Porter and wife aboard.

William Lindenschmidt, a young workman from Topeka Avenue, fell from a scaffold at the south side of the Central National Bank building. He struck the roof and was carried through a window to a marble floor, bruised but alive, with possible internal injuries. His companion clung to a window sill and escaped injury. A physician treated him. his condition described as serious with bruising and potential internal harm.
