A compulsory mounted parade of the Toodyay Troop is scheduled for May 28. Weight reducing exercises were led by two lads alongside four loyal girls on Thursday night last week. The girls showed notable hockey stick skills this week, though usefulness remains uncertain.
A truck ran off the Northam Perth road near the 34 mile peg on Sunday, throwing Richard Pepper and Alexander Parry from the vehicle. Both men suffered bruises and abrasions and were taken to Toodyay Hospital for treatment. The driver claimed a car forced him off the road. The injured men were employees of the Main Road Board.
The late Mrs. Mary Ann Waters of Dewar's Pool died in Perth on Monday aged over 93. She came to Australia from England at age three and settled at Woodhall Toodyay. Survived by three sons and two daughters, funeral at Culham Church conducted by Rev. F. Burt with pallbearers listed.
Mr. W A Waters of Youanmi returned to the Murchison on Wednesday after attending his mother's funeral on Tuesday. Miss Marie Herrod of Perth underwent an appendicitis operation on Tuesday. Miss E Thompson of Toodyay is spending a short holiday in Northam.

William Crawley a 62 year old boiler maker employed by the railway department was killed instantly when he was run over by three coaches and a guard's van at Northam yards near the station and an overhead bridge. The body lay between a coach and van after being struck by the engine. Fireman WW Lynn and shunters F Geggh and A Stewart did not see the man before the accident. A shadow from the bridge likely delayed detection.
A mother and child attend a chariot race where the sole female contestant's vehicle capsizes at a corner. Little Audrey laughs, sure the scene couldn't be Ben Hur, reflecting a lighthearted spectator moment in a period setting.
Avon Valley Golf Association hosts a three day Annual Open Championship at Goomalling Links on June 4 5. The program features Four Ball Bogey Handicap on Saturday, Hole Goosy Handicap on Sunday, and 36 holes stroke play for the Open plus 36 Holes Stroke Handicap and two day handicap events on Monday. Open Teams Shield and Handicap Teams Shield also run concurrent with entries closing May 30. Amateur members of West Australian clubs eligible. lunch and afternoon tea provided for 20 per day.
Mr Roberts of the Western Australia University spoke at Toodyay Lesser Hall on Tuesday about Australians and Europe today. He compared British and German governance, quoted Mein Kampf, and noted Germany would bomb London if Munich demands failed. He argued German nationalism surpassed English in some respects and defended British imperial liberty. The talk ended with thanks from E Lee Steere and a closing vote of appreciation.
Wednesday hockey saw Cardinals and Rovers deadlock with no score through regulation. Best for Cardinals were M Watson Mo Lloyd and M Hodgkinson while Rovers highlighted Smith E Meredith and Markey. Next week Rovers meet Pirates at 3 50 pm.
