Response to requisition by over twenty ratepayers convening a general meeting at Toodyay Town Hall on Friday May 21 at 8 30 p m. Chairman James Poturrt outlines securing a resident doctor for the district.
At a recent monthly meeting the chairman reported interviewing Health Secretary Huelia regarding appointing a resident doctor for the district. Discussion centered on a guaranteed income of £0.09 per annum with government covering two thirds of any shortfall and annual contracts. The board adopted the chairmans report and instructed the secretary to apply, awaiting the ministers approval.
Toodyay Red Cross branch held a bridge party at Wendouree Tea Rooms last Monday night to raise funds. Prizes went to Mr and Mrs Campbell for high score and Mrs Christie with Mr Waddington for the hidden number. Girl Guides sold lages in the streets last Saturday and public support was gratifying. The Toodyay Troop Light Horse held a rifle range parade Sunday with Trooper R L Jack top scorer at 84 points followed by Trooper L Haymes at 70. Warrant Officer Middleton showcased rapid shooting with 15 shots in 25 seconds. All ranks performed well and the event was a success.
A dinner at the Free Masons Hotel on Tuesday night May 11 gathered ex-students from Guildford Grammar Hale School Christian Brothers College Saint Peter's Adelaide and Christian Brothers Adelaide. Toasters honored included the King and the Public Schools Association as they discussed education ideals and future inter‑school links toward an annual event.
A busy Toodyay social week features former teacher Miss Molly Daly visiting Mrs E J S Wroth, while Miss Joyce Parker travels to Northam for a minor operation. Local clergy entertain at the Rectory, and head-teacher Mr Crabbe enjoys vacation at Geraldton. Thelma Machar celebrates her 21st at Key Farm with friends including Costigan and Hunter. others head to Perth for holidays.
On Wednesday May an engagement was announced between Miss Sybil Donegan daughter of the late Mr G Donegan of West Loo and Mr John Anthony Williams of Toodyay acting postmaster of Toodyay.
