A Sunday cycle challenge between T K Coffey and W Cook in poor track conditions drew a crowd at Foodyay. Coffey won after three laps to Cook’s five, with Coffey donating his winnings to the Goodyay Cricket Association.

Market officials yarded 258 pigs on Friday February 6 at York. Bacon pigs were well represented with light to medium weights selling near prior levels. Store pig demand remained, though values eased slightly. Prices: choppers heavy £12 to £14, medium £7 5s to £9 15s. baconers medium £7 to £8 5s, light £6 to £7. porkers heavy £5 5s to £6 15s, medium £4 10s to £5 5s, light £3 5s to £4 10s. slips 60s to 6s, weaners 25s to 30s, smaller 20s to 25s.
Prime Minister and Treasurer Mr Chifley announced the next Commonwealth Cash Loan for April 14. The Fifth Security Loan aims to raise 35,000,000 pounds for repatriation rehabilitation public works and services of the Commonwealth and States. Interest set at 3 1 8 percent, securities issued for 12 years with redemption option in 1957. Advance applications are being received with interest at 3 1 8 percent from lodgment date. several million pounds already lodged.
