A Sunday blaze at Stirling Park Toodyay caused smouldering rubbish and sawdust to Flam near a children's area. Firefighters contained the fire after hours with minor outbursts. cause remains unknown.
A varied programme drew a good crowd on a pleasant day at Bakers Hill. Events spanned ages from 7 to adult with winners named in races including sack, egg and spoon, long jump and sprint, along with board games and obstacle events for girls and boys, culminating in prize and weight throwing events and novelty contests.
Toodyay households report ongoing holiday absences and visitors this week. Mr and Mrs A Beever and family returned from annual holidays. Mrs McLernon of Pinjarra visited her mother Mrs M Lloyd of Toodyay last week. Mrs HM Fleay and family from Darkan visited Toodyay this week. Mrs H Wilson Jr of Bayswater visited sister Mrs K Thompson. John Morris has become headmaster of Pingelly State School. Several Toodyay families and relatives, including Elton Davies and Diane, Norseman guests, and Rogers family with baby, were noted returning home or visiting during the weekend.
The death of A B Stone of Fulgering Perth January 29 is noted with mourning in Calingiri district. A pioneer farmer, sheep breeder and community builder, he helped form the Calingiri Agricultural Society and supported Anglican church and local sports clubs. He will be remembered for his leadership, wide circle of friends, and public spirit. Requiescat in pace.
