Negroes and Police Have Bloody Fight at Okmulgee
At Okmulgee Oklahoma a day of violence ended with five people killed including Sheriff Robinson and two black deputies after a clash at a railroad station led to a barricade and gunfire. The fight began when Jim Deckard attacked an Indian boy and fled as police closed in. Deckard fired on the pursuing posse, killed the sheriff and two deputies, and then perished as his house burned with ammunition exploding around it. Authorities say no race war danger remains and the militia will not be needed.
