Migrants Stranded As Steamer Pottadam Sails With Full Quarters
New York June 18 More than a thousand steerage passengers bound for European ports were left behind as the steamer Pottadam sailed at capacity of 4000. Police kept crowds from boarding while many homeward-bound foreigners arrived on trains. Most prospective passengers had little money and planned to camp in Hoboken parks until the next vessel sails. The rush was driven by unusually low eastward steerage rates.
