Fire in snow sheds on the Southern Pacific line near Truckee delayed trains and cut telegraphic communication to the East. By afternoon, the fire was extinguished and service was restored.
The nude body of a young woman, possibly six years old, was found nearly submerged in a pond near Meadow in Harrison. Police detained two men from a nearby yacht as coroner says death by strangulation occurred about ten hours earlier. Evidence includes neck marks, scratches, dragged body marks, and personal items found along the path.
An Associated Press dispatch from New York on December 26 notes that twenty-one trust companies and twenty-nine state banks in Greater New York reported their December 19 statements. The overall tone reflects unlocking recovery and strong depositor confidence despite earlier strain.
In Indianapolis on December 26 the Indiana Republican biennial love feast adopted resolutions urging the nomination of Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks for the Presidency.
Cripple Creek Colorado December 26 A Cripple Creek Telegram report says the larger mines will re adopt the change room system January 1 and extend it to all high grade ore mines. The move follows increased high grading with Golden Cycle Company initiating the measure.
In Salt Lake City on December 26 guardian ad litem Mrs Mary Maddison and the Bradley children allege that the late Senator Arthur Brown was not of sound mind when the will was written. They seek to break the will citing the disavowal of paternity and habitual intoxication as proof of abnormality. The Brown estate is valued at about $50,000.
Valparaiso reports 210 dead and about fifty wounded from recent encounters at Iquique between nitrate strikers and police. In Chicago, a federal foreclos ure decree on Union Traction properties orders sale to Chicago Railway Company.
Associated Press reports Henrietta Okla on December 26 fears a deadly face war after the lynching of James Gardeh a Black man. Armed Black residents advance reports come from Wid Cat and Clear View settlements. Three citizen patrols established sixty stands of small arms bought before stores quit selling to blacks. Many Black residents flee Okmulgee toward Wild Cat to join a band moving through the area.
In Denver on December 26 a warrant was issued for Fred G. Bonfils, Denver Post proprietor, after an early morning encounter with ex United States Senator Thomas M. Patterson. Patterson, nearly 70, was knocked down and badly injured. the clash ends a long running feud between the Post proprietors and Patterson, stockholder of News Times Publishing.
Boise Idaho December 26 Judge Woods refused the defense motion to acquit Pettibone. Clarence Darrow chief counsel for the defense spoke to the jury outlining a defense line similar to the Haywood trial. The court held sufficient corroborative evidence to justify submitting the case to the jury.
The San Francisco Examiner interview caused alarm in Goldfield. General Funston states he did not misquote and that troops were needed, noting he spoke carefully with Mr Healy and assessed public alarm and calm across multiple Goldfield visits.
Beasley era. The sheriff of Okmulgee County reports that while the situation remains desparate, conditions are quiet for now. The county is largely black populated and a wave of desperate violence is feared. Militia will be sent to the county at the first sign of an outbreak.

President Roosevelt and party arrive at Pine Knot after a long muddy drive to North Garden. They settle in three traps with Mrs Roosevelt Miss Carew and others. Tomorrow they proceed to the turkey runs in Vermont’s Green Mountains, greeting the crowd on arrival.
Rescue work at the Darr mine in Jacobs Creek Pennsylvania resumed today. Entry No 29 yielded several bodies and officials say about 100 bodies may be recovered from entry No 27, which remains unexplored.
The Arkwright Club representing New England cotton mill interests voted to cut production by 25 percent from now to March 1 to relieve cloth markets in New York Chicago and other large centers. About 150000 workers may be affected by the short time and over 80 percent of New England spindles are covered by the agreement.
Joseph F. Piesen, department superintendent at a Chicago packing firm, died from lockjaw a week after a wash fracture in the plant laboratory stairway. He had diagnosed his fate several days earlier and believed he would not recover.
Boston December 26 The American board of commissioners for foreign missions received advices from inland Turkey showing unusually severe famine conditions. Several hundred persons probably will starve during the winter unless relief arrives soon.
The Ely Tonopah Gold Field area will begin a thorough survey and examination of the country between Ely and Tonopah to assess a direct railroad route. Frank Armstrong will oversee engineering and business feasibility, with field work starting in January and lasting months to explore tributary resources and attract investment. If approved, construction could move quickly depending on financial conditions.
