Two Miners Die In Comstock Mine Cave-In
Virginia City dispatch reports two miners Forest Quinn and James Ferrie died in a cave-in at the Potosi mine’s Stark stoppe on December 19. Ferrie died instantly from a fractured skull. Quinn survived briefly, gave an oral report, and died minutes later. State Mine Inspector Ryan will investigate as coroner McDonald empanels a jury.

A blaze at the Open Board of Trade in Chicago on December 19 20 destroyed the five story landmark and the records of the Chicago federation of labor and numerous unions. Roughly 1000 hotel guests were evacuated in panic from nearby Kaiserhof New Victoria and Stafford hotels. Fire officials estimated losses at 200 000 with possible incendiary origins being investigated.

Death of William Roche Shocks Local Family in Chicago
Mrs J C Piercy and Miss Mayme Roche learned Monday of the sudden death of William Roche, 35, a Chicago terminal train director. An accident at the Chicago terminal yard caused his death. details were not provided. He leaves a wife, three children, mother, three sisters, and a brother in Chicago. Relatives planned to travel but could not reach in time for the funeral. The community extends sympathy to the Roche and Piercy families.
