The Tonopah Miners union plans a Christmas Eve Grand Benefit Ball at the Miners' Exchange Hall to fund hospital relief. Tickets are on sale through local businesses and union members. Past dances by the union have been popular, and this event aims to maintain high standards with quality music.
Genial Tonopah rail road agent Jack Peck received a Vancouver telegram announcing the birth of a son. He requested two weeks vacation, was granted it after a whispered explanation, and plans to depart north with the baby expected to be healthy. He nearly forgot his trunk but is reported in good condition to travel.
The US gunboat Bennington, wrecked after exploding in San Diego harbor in 1905 with 58 dead, has been towed to Oakland harbor from Mare Island. It will be dismantled by junk dealers for $11,500, per a government release.

Alex McLeod a To hopah resident from Millers wed Grace Cavanaugh this afternoon after a secret plan misfired. The Millers machinists organized the celebration with an old shoe and can dance at the Miners' hall and expect a grand ovation for the newly married couple who will reside at Millers where the groom works in the large mill.
A hurricane swept the English Channel last night, with winds at 70 miles per hour. Cross channel traffic between Calais and Dover halted, Dover felt full gale force, and shipping along the coast suffered widespread damage. Lifeboat rescues were reported.
The president sent to the Senate the nomination of Charles A. Cotterill of Toledo to be collector of internal revenue at Honolulu. He is described as a negro. Honolulu lodged a strong protest that went unheeded. Also nominated was John F. Armstrong of California to be register of the land office at Sacramento.

Washington reports that the House will decide the exposition site between New Orleans and San Francisco by January 17 to mark the Panama Canal opening. The decision follows an agreement reached by the rules committee.
El Paso reports that Apra ham Gonzales a wealthy Chihuahua stock broker is designated provisional governor by Francisco Madera. Luther Ellsworth says Gonzales commands 1000 armed men with General Perfecto Lomellla near Ojingina, as 100 Mexican troops guard the town and 1000 insurgents loom within 50 miles. The town is expected to fall to insurgents.
The Associated Press reports in New York on December 17 that the stock exchange firm Judson & Hudson was suspended. The announcement was made on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
A highly anticipated twenty round lightweight bout tops today’s card at Hlot's arena in San Francisco. Hogan, unbeaten in thirty-two bouts with eighteen knockouts, is a heavy favorite over Johnny Frayne who recently fought a ten round draw with Owen Moran in New Orleans.

Escorted by a few oldtime acquaintances the remains of B J Watson, former California state senator and police instruction superintendent for Nevada County, were buried in the city cemetery yesterday afternoon. Nevada City residents paid the expenses led by Paddy Grimes and William Waters, with Owney Dougherty among those guiding the rites. Once a power in politics, Watson faded from view as friends deserted him.
San Diego police reported M. G. Man an aged rancher from Lawkon valley was found dead in the brush near his cabin after an ambush last night. The cabin had been ransacked as authorities searched for money the murdered man was believed to keep there.
Dec 17 Alfred T. Black assistant United States attorney for the northern district of California resigned to practice law in the city. Benjamin McKinley, the second assistant, was promoted to fill the vacancy and Karl H. Pier was appointed to McKinley’s old post.
