The Tonopah Mining Company declares a 40 cent dividend plus a 24 cent regular and a 15 cent extra dividend payable January 21 1911. Books close December 31 1910. Total 1910 distributable profits near 1.5 million with additional recent declarations from Belmont and Montana bringing the trio’s total to about 685000.
The jury in State of Nevada versus W. H. Sanders returned a verdict of acquittal after brief deliberations. Sanders, charged with arson by W. B. Gray of Rhyolite, was ordered released from custody. Judge Averill and A. M. Nye canvassed the case through night session. the result appears to reflect a personal grudge at taxpayers' expense.
Captain Daniels of the steamship Olympia reports from Valdez that there is no hope of saving the ship after striking the Bligh island reef last Sunday. The Associated Press notes the maritime disaster near Seattle.
London reports the engagement of Lord Decies to Vivian Gould, daughter of George J. Gould of New York. The fifth Baron Decies recently inherited the title after his brother's death. Born December 5, 1868, he has seen service in campaigns against the Mad Mullah Somaliland, in the Matabele War, and in the Boer War.
Brigadier General Funston, head of the Army Service Schools at Fort Leavenworth, is assigned to the department of the Philippines. He will relieve Brigadier General Potts, who will command the Leavenworth schools.
Mr and Mrs T W Kendall J McQuillan W J Douglas H R Cooke and G H MelIntost left this morning for Goldfield by auto. Mr Douglas has a case coming up today in the district court at that place and will be represented by McIntosh Cooke. The party will return this evening.
Charles L. Leavitt, a local carpenter long active around town, died last night at his Corona avenue home after a week of typhoid pneumonia. The body was moved to Wonacott and Hall funeral parlors for services tomorrow at 3 30 PM under Local No 1417 of the Carpenters union.

St Louis December 15 The Missouri Pacific machinists boiler makers and blacksmiths strike now in its seventh month is likely to be called off today per James O Connell president of the Machinists union the union said.

Kiel Dec. 15 The German battleships Schwaben and Elsass collided in Kiel Bay last night causing the stormer to be considerably dayhaged. Mrs Kate Townsend of Millers came up from that city today on a shopping trip. The Daily Bonanza reaches the people.
Governor elect Oddie, still in Berkeley, plans no immediate cabinet reshuffle and will refer to Sacramento this week. He has received many letters requesting positions but has not publicly named a secretary or announced appointments. A San Francisco friend quotes rumors of a governor’s marriage and notes the need to travel to learn news.
The Senate judiciary committee commended immediate confirmation of Wills Van deventer and Joseph R. Lamar as supreme court justices. Appointments to the court of commerce were referred to a subcommittee, and the Senate confirmed Lamti and Van deventer.
Philadelphia December 16 Congressmen Joel Cook of this city died today after being stricken with apoplexy in Washington last Saturday He had served in public life for years and was a prominent figure in local politics and national affairs.
Edmund B. Kirby of St Louis arrives from the east for a short visit in Tonopah. This is his first trip here since mining congress meetings over nine years ago when he spoke on the Paralysis of Mining Districts. He plans to inspect local mines during his stay.
The Tonopah Mining company installed a new electrical system with a storage battery capable of delivering 409 horsepower for one hour, stabilizing voltage and reducing reliance on the main line. Superintendent W H Hinckgurn oversaw the project begun two months ago, with connections to Belmont and Butler plants for emergency power and a prior Goldfield Consolidated service costing about 40000 dollars.
