County Clerk Robert G. Pohl filed certificates of election for Nye County after a delay caused by contestation. Officials elect were notified with official notices and oaths of office will be taken upon assuming duties. No contest is anticipated.
After January 1 foreign corporations face publication of their statements six times in a daily paper. The Bonanza will publish within the required period and file affidavits with county assessors for $8. Heavy fines apply for noncompliance. Statements should be ready at fiscal year end.
Washington is buzzing about a cafe worker Wilfred Barron who cut his thumb while peeling lemons. Four lemon seeds reportedly embedded in the cut sprouted a small lemon tree nicknamed Tom Thumb. Doctors removed sprouts, and more reportedly emerged, fueling debate over fact versus imagination.

London reports Dr. Charles C. G. Becker died at Colchester aged 84. A veteran of U S Army service in the Mexican War, he fought in Mexico at 14, joined the Schleswig-Holstein campaign and was captured by the Danes, was wounded in the Crimean War, served on Omar Pasha's staff, and aided in the Varna cholera camp.
Postmaster T. R. Hofer Jr departed Monday evening for Washington after being summoned by Postmaster General Hitchcock. The postal department chose Carson City as a site for local savings banks, and the postmaster general ordered all postmasters at the bank sites to receive instructions and training for the new system.
