Jon Meow reports from Wartington that Representative Serene E. Payne dies at home of heart disease. Joseph A. Miller a longtime state senator from Lander County died Tuesday afternoon on Southern Pacific train No 6 near Colfax while en route to the coast for medical treatment after weeks of illness. He served as president pro tempore of the state senate and had been active in banking and stock farming. Born in Ohio about 72 years ago, he served in the Civil War and was a former grand master of Nevada Masons.
Independe nce Missouri February 21. Joseph Smith, president of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, died today at the bed side. He will be succeeded by William E. Pratt as president.
Washington December 11 The naval committee heard Secretary Daniels testify that there were no dreadnoughts on the Pacific coast and the Oregon Sea was the only battleship more than twenty years old. He warned that defenses were inadequate and stressed the need for stronger sea power and shipbuilding.
At a stockholders meeting in attorney Will Forman’s office a resolution converted the Cash Boy Consolidated Mining Company into an unsenaable company with equal share stock. Capital remains 1,000 with a half cent per share levy due by thirty. The Belmont and Buckeye prospected area around Tonopah remains productive as sinking resumes and rhyolite and trachyte formations are discussed in the Belmont field.
Report states James Burke of Weed abducted and murdered his nine year old daughter Honiie after buying her toys in Redding and then shot himself, leaving no clear motive. Authorities note the child’s injury was fatal while Burke’s life ended in suicide.
