In one of the most exciting games at this camp Manhattan school defeated the Rounsevelt's of Tonopah 14 to 10 on Sunday. A large crowd witnessed the clash with lively cheering from visiting supporters. A return game may be scheduled in Tonopah next Sunday.
An Associated Press report from Chicago notes a horse in Elgin apparently committed suicide by drowning in the Fox River after suffering colic. The animal walked to the riverbank near noon and swam toward midstream before turning back and sinking without a struggle.

Yosemite Aug 30 forest fires in the Yosemite valley were brought under control by foresters and soldiers and, barring a new start, should be completely extinguished within a few days. The late Miss B Hayes of Ely left most of her estate to Bishop Scanlon of Salt Lake City for a hospital to be run by Catholic Sisters. The Hayes Green Park property is to be used for the hospital, with remaining assets supporting this foundation. The will was filed last Saturday.

Ernest Frevert, 25, died Saturday morning in Gardnerville from typhoid fever after a prolonged illness. Relatives were summoned, and his brother Al Prevert of H J Hall Liquor Co. was at the bedside. Funeral held Sunday with tribute from the Genon community.
A government service gun known as the fodman, used for many years, died today from the effects of a wound received during the Spanish American War.
Paris August 30 Samuel Gompers head of the American Federation of Labor dominated the first day of the sixth International Trades and Union congress. European delegates denounced the AFLs stance toward joining an international movement while Gompers urged a world wide organization to defend rights and create solidarity. An Austrian delegate called Gompers explanation mockery and predicted American workers would later see their policies as erroneous and join the international confederation. The session ended with international secretary M Legion noting Gompers was a guest and urging the AFL to unite with European colleagues.
Lew Humphreys and J Armstrong of the Southern Pacific engineering force based in Salt Lake arrived in Tonopah last Friday and left Saturday for Manhattan then Round Mountain and several other camps. They inspect a proposed cut off from Beowawe through Smoky Valley to Manhattan and Tonopah, with dirt expected to fly within thirty days on the Ely Goldfield route, signaling a likely new road in the near future.

San Francisco Aug 30 A ruling by Superior Judge Seawell states messages from any point along Western Union Telegraph may be forwarded to San Francisco for transmission over the Commercial Cable Company lines and will be charged the same rate as the Postal Telegraph Company. Previously Western Union cables to San Francisco were priced higher due to ant-dated routing for the city.
James R. Keene's Sweep won the twenty-second running of the Maturity at Sheepshead Bay. Candleberry finished second and Grasmere, Sweep's stable mate, third. The six furlongs took 1:11.465 with Sweep earning $27,000 from a $34,000 purse as bettors pushed the odds from 7-5 to 9-10 at post.
C F Grater aged 45 years died Sunday morning at Miners Hospital after an appendicitis operation last week. He suffered liver stomach and bowel troubles and was a native of Iowa. He is survived by a wife resident of this city and the body may be taken to town for interment. A marriage license was issued by County Clerk Pohl to Frank Domeens and Bertha Nenn.
The New York games opened with a long eleven inning affair between Chicago and New York. In the other New York clash the score showed a tight contest. Brooklyn hosted Pittsburgh, while Boston faced Cincinnati and Philadelphia met St. Louis in separate standings games.

Hage Mattson a Belmont mine worker died Sunday morning at Miners Hospital from blood poisoning. He suffered a minor workplace accident but neglected it for days before his condition worsened. He leaves a brother in the city. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock under the Miners Union.
Sam Berger announced a cablegram from James Jef fries confirming the tentative signing with Jack Johnson in Chicago. Jeffries will return within six weeks to prepare for his coming contest, according to Berger in San Francisco.
