Patrick C. Casey, accused killer, was driven to the Tonopah Goldfield area and hurried to the jail as mob fury rose after the death of his alleged victim. A guard kept Casey safe while authorities sought transport, amid a driving rain and crowds shouting for justice.
In a tense drive from Goldfield to this city an auto convoy faced repeated tire punctures as deputies Cahalan and O Toole escorted prisoners Casey and Sheridan along with Sheriff Owens and Pittman. Casey arrived morose and sullen after a lengthy, watchful transfer effort through the NV desert.
Thomas F. Walsh and John Barrett spoke at the Transmississippi Commercial congress in Denver. Walsh urged irrigation of the arid west to relieve crowded tenements, while Barrett discussed reclamation in Latin America. Colonel Ike Pryor forecast a west rail rate war with a Galveston to Denver challenge.
