Chester Rice, a New Mexico fugitive, was wounded during another escape attempt at Needles California. An officer delivering lunch was struck and Rice fled through an open cell door. the officer fired four shots, one hitting near the heart as Rice evaded capture.

Four Die After Gasoline Explosion in West Third Street

An explosion from a gasoline powered device in a four story West Third Street building fatally injured five people including two children and two men. Four others were hospitalized with injuries and some remain trapped. Arnold Kuhle, head of Kuhle Manufacturing, and a man named McCauley were testing a gasoline filling machine when the blast occurred. The blast wrecked the building, shattered windows across the street, and set the nearby Central police station blocks ablaze.

Mexico City Hit by Severe Aftershock Shakes Capital

Mexico City endured another strong quake today lasting about a minute and forty seconds. The National Palace and public buildings suffered cracks while Acapulco saw the customs house and military barracks destroyed. Thirteen quakes in thirty hours were recorded by Tacubaya seismographs.

Electric trains crash near Caldwell injure many

Ten people were killed and at least sixty injured when two electric trains on the Spokane and Tiland railway collided head on at Caldwell Idaho twenty five miles east of Spokane. The dead include William Ward Wenatchee Washington and A P Whigiley Memphis among others. Both trains traveled about fifteen miles an hour and struck with no warning.
