Light Rainfall Aids Cochise Road Repairs

Light rainfall this week boosted temporary repairs across Cochise County under County Engineer 8 Smyth. Crews from Bisbee to Douglas, Tombstone to Benson, and the San Pedro bridge at Benson improved traffic flow, with about twenty repair outfits active countywide. The new highway commission will complete work started by the retiring body, including Tombstone-Benson and Pearce-Cochise routes, with page four continuing details.

Tombstone Schools Open with Co operation for Year

Tombstone public schools opened on Monday September 3 with enrollment approaching one hundred and nineteen and a full staff of teachers. Tombstone Tennis Draws Set Tomorrow in Club Clash

Senator Roberts visits Tombstone as Tombstone Tennis Club hosts Douglas Country Club in a two court series on Bunker Hill and Wyan courts. Eight players travel with three ladies to witness the eight match event slated to run from 1 am to about 7 20 pm. Douglas fans expect strong play while Tombstone hosts cheer the local club. Senator C M Roberts, visiting from Pearce, will stay through Monday to meet with highway officials and inspect the new county road project costing about 4090. Gov Campbell signs extra session pledge in suffrage effort

Gov Thomas Campbell joined a round robin of governors who have not yet ratified the federal woman suffrage amendments. He is the second governor to sign, California’s Stephen being first. CANS BEAT DOUGLAS POLICEMAN ATTACKED BY SIX MEXICANS

Sept 13 near Ross Broor's a mounted policeman was assaulted by six Mexican men. He was beaten unconscious and left for dead. Taken to hospital his condition was reported critical. The attackers allegedly stole the officer's pistol and horse and headed toward Mexico.

In Phoenix Sept 13 Carl Baker and Margaret Shaw sought a marriage license. The couple aged 21 and 19 appeared regular until the bride’s brother interrupted, arguing cousins cannot wed. He rushed the minister to stop the service. the couple said they will marry despite the law, outcome not known.

Phoenix reports Attorney General opinion confirming that removing the old governor's mansion at Prescott would violate the 1919 law and its intent to restore the building. The matter arose from Prescott Legion plans for a Victory memorial and civic center with a new structure on the grounds. Governor Campbell was advised of the ruling following an inquiry prompted by the Prescott letter.

Picked Up Runaway Boy Wanted in Phoenix

Chief Deputy Sheriff Geo Henshaw arrested Leon Tepalli a Phoenix youth after a routine check matched a Phoenix missing person notice. Tepalli, age 16, had run away to see the world and work, having worked at a Sulphur Springs valley road camp before coming to Tombstone. authorities say he is not of bad character.
