Chicago financier Frank A Vanderlip is slated as assistant secretary of the treasury to succeed BeWike, with a Senate confirmation expected soon. A railway disaster on the Vali Jersey line between Reckenbeff and Elvin killed many soldiers and officers. the wreck left sixty dead and numerous wounded.
A Melbourne dispatch reports ninety earthquake shocks over three days, causing building damage and forcing residents into tents for safety. The tremors disrupt towns including Melbourne areas as aftershocks continue to rattle infrastructure.
The Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows voted to lower sick benefit maximums granting more discretion in benefit distributions. Also reports an Armed Express robbery near Levier 205 miles west of San Antonio with the Wille Fargo car blown open and thieves escaping.
A Turkish army report notes eighty Turks killed and fortresses seized on a peninsular stronghold near Prevesa while opposing forces claim Souloura was occupied without resistance. Uruguay reports a revolutionary clash at Tree Amm where many rebels fell and their lines retreated to the frontier. A train of notices promotes patent medicines and a Tombstone post office mail list for the week ending May 1 1987 includes George Morris N Walker and others.
