Small Newspapers May Face War Tax Suspension
Arizona Record editor Charles Edward Hogue warns that small newspapers nationwide may need to suspend publication if a war tax bill becomes law. He argues the 3 percent corporation tax and 5 percent on advertising collections would devastate small town papers, urging protection for publishers while noting their past space generosity to larger outlets. He calls for avoiding England’s lack of transparency and stresses patriotism and support for the army and navy during wartime.
