New Cornelia to Gain Independence from Calumet & Arizona
In Ajo Arizona May 3 New Cornelia Copper Co plans full independence from Calumet Arizona Mining Co with New Cornelia shares distributed to Calumet & Arizona stockholders. They will begin test mills for oil flotation of sulfides while currently processing carbonates and oxide ores by sulfuric acid. The output last month reached 4 576 000 pounds, with 446 000 pounds of smelting ore shipped to Douglas. The parent company produced 4 388 008 pounds in the same period. A churn drill by W A Knoy at Little Ajo shows ore in a 600 foot pay ground drill hole. The Gunsight lead mine near Ajo is being teased by a local outfit including L N Scott and others to take advantage of off workings in pay streaks in the main 25 foot vein.

Wesley das Roy Davis, an Oklahoma fugitive, was killed in a pursuit by Arizona Sheriff W J Ballard after Kirk fired on him. Kirk, who arrived with his uncle Jin Stitlwell and a woman in a reportedly stolen car, eluded capture until the fatal shot ended the chase. Stillwell and the woman remained jailed. Kirk’s body was claimed by local authorities for transfer back to Oklahoma.
