Tombstone Revival Takes Shape In Cochise County
J N Gaines of Tombstone reports Tombstone in Cochise County is reviving after decades of decline. Phelps Dodge interests have taken over old bonanza workings, pumped drainage from levels, and employ about 600 men. Old properties were reorganized by Tombstone Consolidated Mining, paying to drain lower levels but water halted deeper work, while new tunnels above the water line yield low grade ore and promise returns as the town claws back its mining prominence.
