Paroled Cochise County murder prisoners gain clemency
Governor Sloan granted parole Thursday to Emory LaChance and commuted Fred Hicklin’s sentence. Both were convicted of second degree murder in July 1904. LaChance killed a man at Dos Cabezas amid debauchery while Hicklin, in Yavapai County, received a ten year reduction after many citizens urged clemency.

Senate committee backs Arizona New Mexico statehood bill
Washington dispatches report the senate committee on territories voted to report favorably on the statehood bill for Arizona and New Mexico after adopting amendments. One amendment restores voting rights to residents of the territories for ratification of the constitutions, restoring pre act qualifications and excluding Mexican voters. Another amendment sets aside one million acres in each territory to fund county bonds validated by Congress. The bill awaits action after the administration railroad bill.
