Paroled Cochise County murder prisoners gain clemency

Governor Sloan granted parole Thursday to Emory LaChance and commuted Fred Hicklin’s sentence. Both were convicted of second degree murder in July 1904. LaChance killed a man at Dos Cabezas amid debauchery while Hicklin, in Yavapai County, received a ten year reduction after many citizens urged clemency.

Rearrested on a Smuggling Charge

Mrs. Myra Keegan, sought by U S authorities, was brought to Tombstone from Bishee and held on a federal grand jury smuggling charge. She admitted knowledge of her wanted status but claimed no attempt to escape, saying she had worked at Bishee and in boarding houses. A kidney remedy ad is included in the text.

22nd Annual Dance at Gage Hall

The 22nd annual dance will be given at Gage Hall on the evening of March 17, 1910. Music and refreshments will be provided for guests and attendees are invited to a formal social event marking the season.

Passing of William Morris in Tombstone

The death of William Morris at eighty five yesterday in Tombstone drew deep regret. Morris, a longtime Tombstone resident and pioneer, faced pneumonia and died at 65. His funeral, under the W.O.W., was widely attended as friends paid respects and saw his remains to their resting place.

Senate committee backs Arizona New Mexico statehood bill

Washington dispatches report the senate committee on territories voted to report favorably on the statehood bill for Arizona and New Mexico after adopting amendments. One amendment restores voting rights to residents of the territories for ratification of the constitutions, restoring pre act qualifications and excluding Mexican voters. Another amendment sets aside one million acres in each territory to fund county bonds validated by Congress. The bill awaits action after the administration railroad bill.

Dismissal Ordered After Bowie Justice of the Peace Review

The Bowie justice of the peace was advised there was no valid reason to arrest the men and was instructed to dismiss the cases. District Attorney Wil lame states each man arrested posted a $10 bond for appearance and the case was dismissed. The actors' money was held for the company’s members.

Damage Suits Against the Ray Copper Co

Three damage suits for 25030 dollars each filed in Florence Pinal county against Ray Consolidated Mines after the February 6 Kelvin explosion destroyed a narrow gauge car and killed seven men. Plaintiffs include Mrs M P Griffis and relatives of Phoenix and Salt Lake residents among the slain. Complaints allege 90 kegs of giant powder planted and forgotten in a tunnel caused the disaster, not a misfire.
