Arizona Statehood Approval Sparks Tombstone Jubilation
The Arizona admission bill clears the House and is welcomed in Tombstone as statehood prospects brighten. Governors and state officers would be elected in November with a January legislative session to choose two U.S. senators, while New Mexico would issue bonds for a new capitol. The capital move from Santa Fe to Albuquerque stirs debate, and mining, land, and Cochise county real estate issues loom as prospects for silver-friendly politics grow.
