Suit Seeks Over Three Million Dollars in Bisbee Deportation Damages

A flood of lawsuits totaling over 3.4 million dollars was filed in Cochise County court arising from the July 12 Bisbee deportation. Twenty defendants including El Paso & Southwestern Railroad and Phelps Dodge companies are named, with plaintiffs led by W. B. Cleary of Phoenix seeking 10,000 dollars each in many cases and 26,000 dollars per suit for others. The actions accuse the defendants of using armed force to remove a resident, causing loss of residence, business and mental anguish, with possible venue changes ahead as more suits are filed.
