Guy Welch longtime Cochise county resident and Tombstone deputy sheriff announces candidacy for county treasurer at the upcoming primaries. As undersheriff and Tombstone mayor he points to steady management of taxpayers funds, efficient county leadership, and a clean city government as his qualifications.
Oscar K. Goll, once of Douglas and known as an Arizona publicity and newspaper man, was discharged from the court calendar in Los Angeles. The charge of issuing a worthless check was dismissed after it was shown he unintentionally overdrawn his account and the check was later made good. Goll departed for Phoenix to reunite with an Arizona staff, where he will make his home.
Phoenix and Maricopa County lead Arizona in thrift stamps and war savings certificates sales. Since the drive opened over three months ago, Arizona has sold more than 200000 in stamps and certificates, with Maricopa County and Phoenix totaling about 40000 and banks adding another 104000 statewide. Yavapai and Cochise follow as leaders in regional sales.
Mrs. Mary E. Gibson, mother of Attorney O. Gibson and stepmother of Mrs. Hii, died Thursday at Long Beach after a long illness. Funeral plans indicate burial beside her husband in El Dorado, California. The news came to Alice E. Mill with sorrow from Tombstone and many local friends.
An extensive plant has been installed at Contention to treat a large tailings dump that has resisted prior methods but holds big values in silver and gel. The Hirt company, now operating there, has put in a roasting furnace and expects to yield pay bullion.
Repeated rumors claim the 158th Infantry formerly the First Arizona at Camp Kearny California will be moved to join General John J. Pershing's Expeditionary Forces in France. The regiment has undergone lengthy training and is viewed by many as ready for combat.
Phoenix February weather summary notes the first winter storm on the wir and 10th produced about five inches of snow with lighter fall on the 12th. Snow persisted at higher elevations while northeastern plateau areas thawed. White mountains Sierra Anchas Verde River basins saw eight to thirty inches. Morgan had sought to know if troops were still needed as he relinquished command.

A Phoenix party led by Governor Hunt, with messages from Arizona families and candy, departs for Camp Kearney California to witness a Washington Birthday review of about 50 000 troops. They will reach San Diego and proceed to the camp for hours of reviewing from the stand with officials including Adjutant General Harris and Secretary of State Osborn.
