Why Auto Owners Must Prove Ownership for Licenses
County assessor R. Henshaw explains new state law requires proof of ownership to issue 1922 license plates. Owners must show bill of sale, out-of-state registration, or prior California license, to curb stolen car misuse and ensure records match motor numbers. The filing system now tracks licenses by owner, car make, and motor number, with four filing methods in use.

Southwest in early days not as wild as film hero
Major George H. Ketly publisher of the Douglas Daily International recalls the Arizona of the 1880s and 1890s as less violent than cinema myth. He cites his 52 years in journalism, including work in Popular River and Tucson, and notes few fist fights or killings despite sensational train robberies and payroll holdups. He contrasts old advertising with modern newspaper economics and recounts his long tenure in Douglas.
