Masons from across Arizona converge in Tucson at the Scottish Rite Cathedral for the 25th Grand Commandery Knights Templar conclave, 30th annual Grand Lodge communication, and 18th annual Eastern Star session. Committees welcome visitors and coordinate arrangements for the large gathering of Masons anticipated to include hundreds of lodge representatives and grand officers.

Potatoes Not Authorized as Flour Substitute
Phoenix on February 3 1920 potatoes are not an authorized substitute for wheat flour under the fifty fifty provisions of new wheat conservation rules. The policy allows limited use in exhausted substitute areas with four pounds of potatoes per one pound of wheat flour. George H. Smalley notes confusion over Texas allowing potatoes and stresses adherence to Washington instructions. Each pound of wheat flour must be purchased with a substitute from a listed group including corn barley flour rice oatmeal rolled oats buckwheat flour potato flour sweet potato flour soya bean flour milo maize meals and flours with beans not allowed. If substitutes exhaust, list may be extended upon application to the Arizona food administrator. A goodly supply of mile maize meal is entering the market.

It lists conditions deemed non disqualifying such as minor disabilities, certain skin lesions, skull abnormalities, minor ear and vision conditions, nasal obstructions, benign tumors, thyroid enlargement without symptoms, small hernias, and prior abdominal surgeries. The message frames stricter exclusions as unnecessary when operations can remedy issues.
Death of Mrs Larrieu Marks Pioneer Remembered
Katherine Larrieu who died in San Jose California is buried in Santa Chora. Born in County Mayo Ireland she came to New York at age 15 and crossed to California via Panama. She and Leon Larrieu lived at Alum Rock Springs in San Jose then moved to Los Angeles Tucson and Contention. Her family later built the Montewane House after the railroad reached Parkerbank. She was 79 years old and mother of nine, six surviving: John L Larrieu Mrs J B Chadwick France L Conyers E P A Jos P and T D M Larrieu.

Arizona Counts Down Final Draft Quota In 1918
Phoenix reports no Washington word on the last increment of the first draft as 15 percent remains to be called. Colonel Harris says Arizona nearly filled its quota and by February 23 the state may have sent all men needed, with 315 slackers already drafted and 140 more sought.

Eastern Star Meeting and Social Recap at Masonic Hall
Last evening the Eastern Star chapter held its semi monthly session in the Masonic Hall. Worthy Matron last year Mrs H L Hutchison was absent. Mrs H B Ross presided. The social committee Dr and Mrs Hughart and Mrs Lutley led a fish quiz with canned fish prizes. A spelling match followed with Mrs Lee O Woolery winning a bell. The event ended with banana salad and wafers.

Hayden smelter workers strike at Hayden Globe
Eighty employees of the American Smelting and Refining Company at Hayden walked out on strike citing rebuffed wage demands of 50 percent and the discharge reinstatement dispute. Union leaders warned muckers would join, foreseeing a near-total work stoppage with no local Mexican workers currently employed. County officials planned to travel to Hayden. no trouble reported yet.
