Denver and Sonora Coal Co to Open Mines and Rail Link
A Denver enterprise plans coal operations near Sonora south of Guaymas with McKnight and Lowery heading to Mexico City to finalize arrangements. The group secured a Mexican concession for hundreds of thousands of acres and a railway from Guaymas to the coal lands, backed by $15,000 a mile gold bonds and a projected cost under $13,000 per mile. The line would run seventy miles through favorable terrain, shipping coal from Guaymas to San Francisco via the Gulf of California and Pacific Ocean. The company has posted a large deposit as a good faith guarantee. Knight will then proceed to the eastern U S to prepare for work.
