Census Takers Set to Begin Work January 24

Ray B. Leach, Tucson supervisor for the Indian and western districts, announced the census will start January 24. Areas with over 200 population will be canvassed within two weeks, while rural districts have nine days. The count includes Indian reservations and military camps, with questions on age, literacy, birthplace, home ownership, and occupation.

Keystone at Johnson to Erect Flotation Plant

Keystone Copper plans a new concentrating plant at the Johnson site. W W Miller, president, is in the east securing equipment. The Keystone mine lies near the Dragoon mining district adjoining Arizona United Mining, a multi year copper shipper. The Keystone property, once owned by Alexander Bannon, is now led by Miller and associates of Newton Kansas.

Moon Escaped Prisoner Captured Near Lochiel

Deputy sheriffs Haverty and Parmer recaptured Chet Moon, the escaped prisoner, near Lochiel at a ranch ten miles from the Mexican line after he fled a jail break. Moon admitted evading officers and was sentenced by Judge Lockwood to five to fifteen years in the Florence penitentiary. The capture occurred without a shot being fired and Moon is back in custody as authorities continue patrols in the Huachucas region.

Blaze in Eagle Theater Scares Bisbee Audience

Smoke from an oil burner blaze in the Eagle theater last night sent patrons into the street. Firemen arrived quickly after a service alarm and extinguished the flames with chemicals. Oil leaking from a pipe was ignited by a spark from the pump motor, causing no serious damage beyond wasted oil.

Isbee party escapes crash near Tombstone

Duc Isbee and A N Alvin with a C A party were unable to stop as their Hudson speet ster skidded off a 15 foot drop near Tombstone. Alvin steered into a ditch to avoid a head on impact. all occupants escaped unharmed in the rain damaged vehicle.

Arizona Hero Honored By Naming Ship Pruitt’s Namesake

Secretary Daniels announced the destroyer Prusdestroyer M7 will honor Corporal John H. Pruitt of Alhambra California. Pruitt, cited by General Pershing, posthumously awarded Medal of Honor and Croix de Guerre for single handedly attacking two machine guns, capturing them, killing two enemies and taking 40 prisoners in France. His mother Mrs Belle Pruitt accepted as sponsor. ceremony date not stated.
