No Emergency in Cochise County, County Seeks Leeway
State Tax Commission ruled no emergency exists in Cochise County treasury aside from a few isolated cases, allowing potential debt incurrence to be added to the next tax levy. Treasury funds show deficits with overdrawn accounts, depletion of road and juror funds, and possible transfers within funds to cover shortfalls as officials audit the situation. In Nogales, an official decree on Mexico’s import duties is expected, doubling export tax measures. In Bisbee, former resident B A Taylor, once a bank director, reports total stock loss in a Yuma fire, with $14,100 estimated damage and $20,000 insured, while retaining Gleeson store interests.
