A major blaze early Thursday destroyed Toluca’s pumping plant building and four nearby residences. Firefighters faced low water pressure after arrival at 2:30 AM, spreading from the city building to east side homes. Two houses were two stories. all occupants lost many belongings and face substantial losses. The pumping plant, a modern electrically equipped facility, is a total loss and the final damage will likely reach thousands.

Robbers Capture Train Hold-Up Near Wenona
Two youths, Wilford Adamson of Bismarck ND and Bryan Davis of Mt. Vernon IL, robbed an Illinois Central freight train north of Wenona last Wednesday afternoon. They grabbed Fred Cable at the train, took his suitcase and about $25, fled on foot, were pursued by Officer Harrison and W C Therry, caught three miles north of town.
