Alderman Albert Peterson, Mrs. Peterson, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lloyd rode home from a Streator race. A mistaken turn near Toluca led Lloyd to seek a farm house for distance, revealing they were only miles from Johnny Johnson’s place. Lloyd teases the joke was on the Alderman.
Coroner verdicts report two inquests from the weekend. John Filling Jr a Venona barber died suddenly of heart disease after friends laid him on a cot at the Dickey livery stable. The body is to be buried in Nebraska Venona. In a separate case Henry fold an inquest over child Jesse Carrier son of Mr and Mrs George Carrier drowned after entering a room with a wash tub filled with water. The incident occurred Monday evening and inquest Tuesday.
Elizabeth Jenkins died at her Varna home last Sunday morning at 4 30 due to age. Funeral services were held at the Varna Methodist church with a Lacan minister. burial followed in Lacon cemetery. Born in Ohio in 1828, she married James Jenkins in 1847 and had nine children, six living. The family moved from 1863 to Lacon then near Varna in 1887, later settling in Varna 18 years ago. She leaves James Jenkins and six children: Albert, Clarabelle Yocum, Lilly Hughes, Leslie, Frank, and Gene Jenkins.
Varna young man William Swanson aged 24 died in a Chicago hospital after a neck growth operation. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Fred Swanson of Varna and leaves one brother and four sisters. Funeral services were held at the Varna Methodist church conducted by Rev Laclin with the Yeoman lodge of Magnolia in charge. Swanson had worked as an agent for the Alton at Magnolia.
There is more catarrh in this section than all other diseases. Catarrh is declared constitutional and requires internal treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure by F. J. Cheney & Co. of Toledo Ohio claims to cure by acting on blood and mucous surfaces. They offer $100 for any case it fails to cure.

John Kovatch and wife a daughter. Charles Kane and wife a son. Charles Lewis and wife a daughter.
Sheriff of Marshall County transfers title to George A. Fiedler and Louisa Krenz for lot 225 and portions of sub lots 5 and 8 of lot 166 Henry. Master in Chancery conveys to Mrs Mae Mellody McGrath worth 4 of lot 9 block 11 Wenona. Ola G Hunt and wife deed to Claus A Carlson lot 183 Henry. William Reginald to John Reginald quit claim for 52 Lombard's Railroad addition Henry.

Peters sold out his Toluca store. Lightning struck John Crone’s horse and cow. I N Smith leaves for New York for post graduate study. Rev Laffin of Washburn ordered to leave. White Caps sign. Toluca lost to Streator Reds 11 to 16 in a ball game. Storm damages barns and hay sheds, including Shellberg and Schumacher.
July 31 1903 Simon Swan returns from Oklahoma. T M N Ry line completed to Henry Pike Gus Steinke first to thresh in the district. Mrs Henry Peters seriously ill. Sylvester Berry goes to Chicago for work in Devlin Coal pileage office. A small cyclone two miles south of Toluca damages Wm Daly and Geo Gibson barns and blows shingles off.
Otto Peterson sells his Toluca saloon stock to John Leonard and Patrick Curran who take full possession August 1. Leonard and Curran are established locals and anticipate a successful new venture. Peterson plans to rest and may pursue other business in the future.
Wm. Lee of Paskenta California and E. C. Rhodes of Middleton Georgia praise Foley's Honey and Tar Compound for cough relief. They report universal satisfaction and recommend it for their families. Foster Drug Co. distributes the product.
The board of Review of Marshall County meets at the county courthouse in Lacon Illinois from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Filing complaints ends August 11 1913. Chairman H F Stoner and C E Burt with J E Hohmetrom and Joe Haws as clerks.
William Keegan, 73, of East Chicago, fell from a boat while fishing for a turtle near Grasselli. He disappeared beneath five feet of water as onlookers watched. a body was recovered by Tom Gilbo. Keegan, a former Toluca resident, fire inspector at a Chemical plant, leaves seven children and siblings in New York. Funeral plans remained pending for relatives.
Twenty friends gathered at the Mason parents’ house in Old Town last Friday night to celebrate Elzie Mason’s 18th birthday. The surprise occasion featured a joyful evening with refreshments and many presents given before guests dispersed.

Probate judge of Peoria county resigns to run for circuit judge. Since 1910 he has issued over ten thousand orders and ruled on property rights totaling about nine million dollars. He asks voters to judge his qualifications and citizenship and seeks support in the upcoming primaries September 13 and election October 20.
Former resident Mrs. Wm. Aitkens died in St. Francis hospital in Peoria last Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held Friday. She leaves three sons and one daughter, Mrs. Costello of this city, and a large circle of friends. Mrs. Costello attended the funeral. Mrs. Aitkens lived here until about 18 years ago and ran a Main Street restaurant.
