Hogging Down Corn Now a Common Iowa Practice
Iowa State College experts report hogging down corn saves harvest steps and feeds hogs directly in the field. The method yields good returns, keeps hogs active, reduces disease risk, spreads manure, and cleans up weedy patches. In 1920 about 721000 acres used this system, saving roughly $3,000 in handling costs per farm.
