About 40 Iowa farmers will be recruited as active cooperators to carry two breeding lines on their farms for at least five years. The plan, organized in three Iowa areas, aims to measure the impact of new meaty hog varieties developed at the college. Swine breeders say inbreeding is the only method to increase seed stock purity and create distinct, crossable families, aiding commercial producers and seed stock breeders alike.
