Dial Phone In The Weirs Camp Mystery
In October at Abner Bascom’s lakeside camp near The Weirs, Elton is robbed of family silver after two masked men demand it. Elton, a retired Newton lawyer, claims he dialed Bascom for help using a dial phone and pencil, but investigators doubt the scene. Elton’s claim of poverty and theft is questioned as authorities await a doctor or further clue.

Remove Milkweed Stains While Fresh
Two million school children aid wartime storage work while homemakers face milkweed stain problems. County educator Mrs. Margaret Pratt and extension specialist Miss Elizabeth Peterson advise scorching stains by soaking 2 to 3 hours in cool water to loosen alkali and heat effects, then launder with soap and water. For gummy residue use carbon tetrachloride cleaner from drug stores. tannin stains respond to cool water, then dilute acetic acid or vinegar and bleaching agents like Javelle water, hydrogen peroxide, or oxalic acid, tested first on scraps to avoid color loss.
