The high school baseball team posted wins over Lone Rock 6 to 3 and Goldfield 3 to 2 in extra innings. THS Students Chronicle Class Activities Across Grades
Second and third graders drew images of a bear a giraffe and a camel and wrote stories about these animals and two students. They each brought a plant. Third graders studied early American homes and a new reading chart tracks how many books they read. Fourth graders practiced spelling with ten perfect papers and measured height and weight for monthly health charts. Donald Norland celebrated with candy and Mary Hoon posted a perfect result on division work. Fifth graders read Bombs during Story Hour and Hubert Jandl brought a mole to class. English lessons focus on plants animals and geography. Several students earned 100 in spelling. The HS Junior High edited and published a newspaper The Junior High Press. Art classes design work continues and seventh eighth graders plan a baseball game with freshmen. Our patton plant has one blossom.

Clarks Visit Twin Cities And Duck Hunting Trip
Mr and Mrs Frank Clark visited their son W C Clark in Minneapolis from Friday to Sunday. The trip included a hunting outing north of the city near Little Hally where about 19 ducks were bagged by the party. The son works for General Motors in Minneapolis.

Schroeder Lakota Youth Sentenced for Rape Attempt
Schroeder of Lakota pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit rape and then withdrew the plea to enter a guilty plea. He received a year at the state reformatory with hard labor, and an appeal bond set at $2000. A written confession was obtained after officers traced him via a button with cloth residue. The attack occurred last May 1 at Bancroft following a dance.

The first twelfth district vocational home making conference gathered about 375 teachers pupils and officials from Humboldt Emmetsburg Estherville Rolfe Laurens and Algona. Theme In Step With 1938. Dyene McNee chaired the event and Dorothy Rett hosted assisted by instructors from the towns. Helen Joyce led as student chairman with speakers Danial Kelly Clara Dawson Edna Marcus and Charlotte Moore as toastmistress at noon.

Prominent Algona Men Die Suddenly
Two notable Algona residents, Dr. L. G. Baker age 62 and Joseph Kelley age 58, died suddenly. Baker collapsed at work after a stroke, later died at home. he held dental leadership roles and was active in the community. Kelley died of a heart attack at home, served as city light and water plant superintendent since 1911, with family survivors and civic memberships noted.

State Corn Husking Meet to Be Held at Ringsted
The 1998 Iowa state corn husking contest will be staged Thursday October 27 at the Frank Sewell farm one mile south of Ringsted. Sixteen huskers will compete, led by Lee Stodgill who will defend his title, with county and district winners advancing to Sioux Falls.
