Iowa State College Extension specialists Rex Beresford and W J Turner told about 100 Kossuth County farmers at Algona High School Annex that sustained high consumer incomes and steady prices, plus growing defense spending, support farmers this year. They expect corn to stay near loan levels, cattle numbers to rise, and feeders to gain weight on home grown feed, with prudent risk in heavy cattle at times.

Harvest warning urges farm driver cooperation on highways
Safety officials warned that Iowa harvest season could bring a tragic rise in highway injuries and deaths unless farmers and drivers cooperate. Commissioner Pearl W. McMurray urged slower speeds and visibility measures including ten foot red flags on tractors and wagons. Highway Patrol Chief S N Jespersen reminded farm operators that after dark all machinery must show red rear lights and front white lights for warning and protection.
