In Algona the grocery man Harold R Sorensen 28 was found dead in a bedroom closet with a 12 gauge shotgun beside him. He had financial troubles, son of Lars Sorensen, in partnership in the business. The funeral was held Sunday at the Methodist church with Rev. J H Edge delivering the sermon.
The north central district of the Town Congress for Parent-Teachers will hold a full conference in Emmetsburg at Ham Metsburg on October 16 with Mrs. A E Anderson of Fort Dodge presiding. Program includes board meetings, opening, reports, conferences on Parent Education Publicity and Program Planning, luncheon, a one act play The Flower Shop and a School of Instruction, ending with a complimentary tea.
Mrs H Frankamp and her daughter Mrs Kruse from Titonka, pioneers in Minnesota, visited Mankato to see old friends and handle business. Her present husband, Mr Frankamp, a contractor, attended the waterworks setting with them.
The stockholders of the Kossuth and Hancock Co operative O11 Co will hold their annual meeting at Klolupeter's Hall Wesley Tuesday evening October 6 1986 at 8 p m. All members are cordially invited to attend.
Hartshorn Barker moves into the basement of the Charles John Son building on East State Street to open a new barber shop. Harvey Beatty of Rows King has opened a lined room and beer batter in the paw building and plans an opening next Saturday with his wife and two daughters residing in a newly acquired house nearby.
A group of delegates at Waterlog attended by Oatile Congress near Alecg faced a concussion incident during a session. Officials report no further injuries and investigations are underway to determine cause and safety measures.
The democrats of the county held a well attended meeting in the court room Friday evening. Linnan and Mrs. Francis Bradley of Bancroft were re elected as chairman and vice chairman, and Mrs. Timothy O'Brien of Whittemore was chosen secretary of the county organization. Addresses were made by Chas. B. Furragh and L. Linnan. all candidates on the county ticket spoke briefly.
The Metz Construction Company reports the Algona to Humboldt road project is half finished with crews moved to the north end. With favorable weather, seven miles should be laid in about three weeks, extending paving from Algona to Deg Moines via Port Dodge.
Algona shoemaker Runge of the Galbraith building was stricken last Saturday evening with a paralytic stroke leaving him in a very serious condition and one side completely paralyzed.
Gabbrand Janssen was born January 6 1869 in Mamslach East Fresla Germany to John Janssen and Janken Kaiser. He moved to the United States about 60 years ago living in Hardin Winnebago Kossuth and Hancock counties and died September 16 at his Woden home after two strokes. Survived by sons John and Henry and six daughters Carrie Grace Bertha Johanna Jane Florence and one son in law and other relatives. Funeral services were held at St John Lutheran Woden with burial at Titonka Lutheran cemetery. The Rev J H Kolberg Britt officiated. Mr Janssen was a farmer and retired many years ago.

George D Moulton of Ledyard dies of heart trouble at home in the early hours on Monday. He was a Democratic candidate for Representative from Kossuth County, president of the Kossuth County Conservation League, and director of the County Pair Association. He lived in Ledyard over forty years and was known for fishing and game conservation. He leaves a wife, two sons, and a daughter. The loss is deeply felt by residents across the county.
In Kossuth County farmers with measured farms receive notices on acres of soil conserving practices found. The county soil conservation program is meeting with large approval as farm measurement nears completion.
Algona Berry Halden a Republican candidate for the U S Senate short term will address the public on the Court House lawn Thursday at 2 o clock p m. He is described as a capable speaker and the appearance draws local interest.
Ben A Meyer completed a transfer last week transferring an oil truck business to John Puty who took possession Monday. Puty has been associated with Standard Oil for nine months and will continue to drive a school bus for the remainder of the year.
Donald Callies and his brother Pat along with Louie Bacon Clarence Schrader and Glen Wilson traveled to Longville Minnesota for a vacation and fishing trip. Details await their return for further particulars.
Excavation work was underway Tuesday under J. E. Kell's store building to gain more room for activities. The building measures 22 by 00 feet. Mrs. Frances Bullong and her daughter Edith returned to Hampton on Sunday. Roy Budlong and wife visited Hampton on Wednesday and on Thursday they traveled to Waterloo for the cattle congress.
Charles Cretomoyar returned from a European trip and arrived at Harvard University last Friday to resume studies. His journey covered England France Belgium Luxembourg Italy Austria Hungary and Czechoslovakia and included visits to ancestral homes in Haden and Freiborg Germany.
Dan Capid notes a list of marriage licenses issued this week. Art Merrill of Bancroft wed Tara Lien of Algona, Harold Hennager Kat Waterloo tied with Bertha Fasbender of St. Benedict, Leonora Rounds wed Florence Laurers of Britt, Bernice Lindsay of Fenton, Harold Lappa wed Hilla Neuman of Bancroft.
Mia Bonacker and her sons Amog and Danny left Tuesday for Wood Hiurn Oregon to visit Mia’s parents Mr and Mrs Soren Nelson for a month. Nelson has suffered poor health for some time with various illnesses.
District Court met last week as Judge DeLand left Thursday and planned to return Tuesday. Jurors heard several cases including landlord attachments, foreclosures, and judgments on accounts. Divorce and guardian orders were issued. receivership and lien priority issues appeared in multiple actions.
Local teachers from Emmet Palo Alto Winnebago Kossuth and Hancock counties will gather at the Algona high school for a five county demonstration meeting starting at 9 30 in the auditorium. Teachers will divide into groups to observe subject demonstrations in English composition American literature plane geometry general science and economics with round table discussions to follow on guidance and related subjects chaired by Superintendent Alex C Evans of Luverne.
Lars Sorensen and Mrs Julius Peterson of Algona sail from Bremen aboard the Bremen and head to New York arriving Thursday October. Julius Peterson will meet them in New York and accompany them home while Harold Sorensen’s death will be conveyed to Lars Sorensen only on arrival.
Irene Callies who had a spring mastoid operation returned to work but soon faced renewed trouble. An ear specialist found infected cells and performed a second operation on the same side two weeks ago. Miss Margaret Callies visited, and Irene expected to be home soon for rest and recuperation.
Mr and Mrs Gavin Stonken entertained Mr and Mrs Garth Cleveland in Neal Kansas on Monday. They discussed a complete crop rally in their area, noting four years with no full crop. A court docket lists several judgments on notes and probate actions. The Wandling family plans to move to Buffalo Missouri to farm and raise chickens berries and garden vegetables near a mild winter region two miles from a county seat town.
A district meeting in Charles City gathered county leaders and Extension Service readers from Iowa State College to outline the 194% educational farm program for Kossuth County. A county committee will draft activities in crops and soils, livestock, economics, home projects, 4-H, and rural electrification, with future specialist visits to assist.
IS K Wright met Charles Bunting in Orthel township while canvassing. Bunting, from a Kunt farm west of John Weiland, was gathering seed corn and offered six ears of bright yellow, well filled ears to the News Tribune office for display. He notes Iowa’s poor recent crop and values each car for next year as essentially worth its weight in gold.
Governor Clyde L. Herring, the Democratic candidate for U S Senator, opened his Herring for Senator headquarters on the Hotels Fort Des Moines third floor adjacent to the Democratic state headquarters. Bahne, a prominent Third District Democrat and publisher of the Midora Herald Ledger, runs the office and is a former delegate to the Philadelphia national convention.
Albert Meyer, formerly of Titanka, now on the west coast, arrived Saturday by train to spend a couple of weeks on business and to visit his daughter Mrs. Guy Brung and Mrs. Ben Knox. He reports feeling and looking well.
Carlof Britt appeared before Justice H. B. White on a speeding in a truck charge. He was fined 3 dollars and 3 dollars costs for the offense.
Sunday services will be canceled because of conference sessions at Fort Dodge this year. Sunday School will proceed as usual with no preaching service.
The Luther League met Sunday with Henry Stecker as reader. A wether roast is planned at Brung Stecker’s Friday evening, October 7. Waterworks work has begun at the parsonage and church. Immanuel groups from Woden Britt and Lakota join Good Hope Luther League for the play An Old Fashioned Mother in the church basement on October 6 and 8. Confirmation instruction is Saturday at 1 pm. Donations for the Waverly Orphans’ Home, including canned fruit, apples, and potatoes, are requested and may be brought to the church basement. a truck will be there October 2.
