Seed stock shown to boost butterfat in dairy cattle
A comparison by two cow testing associations shows cows sired by pure bred sires produce far more butterfat than those sired by grade or scrub sires. In one group pure breds yield 230 pounds versus 144.9 for grade sires. in another group 295 versus 215 pounds. The gain translates to about $40 per cow yearly, or $400 for ten cows, underscoring the value of good seed stock for dairy operations.
