State highway probes soil along new 226 route

Titanka residents watched as state highway crews dug 6 foot holes at 100 foot intervals along Main Street and near highway 18. Engineers said tests assess sub soil for the proposed replacement route, with more frequent tests in cut areas and fewer where grading is light. The planned highway 226 will run one mile west of the current alignment and curve into Main Street from the west, with land acquisitions and a town easement already secured.
