Farm Shorts Dealing With Feed Analysis And Harvest Tips
County Extension Director Dean L Barnes notes ISU does not offer individual feed analyses for a fee. A $1 simple analysis for protein fat fiber and ash is available from the State Chemical Laboratory in Des Moines. Harvesting grain sorghum is windy and ideas vary from using a Home Reel to a corn picker and combine. Silage benefits brood sows and reduces production costs, with feeding guidelines of 10-15 lbs daily for sows and gilts plus 14% protein supplement. one ear of corn per sow daily advised in cold weather.
